MUMBAI: A local Session’s court, on Friday granted judicial custody to former congress MLC Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, his son Vishal Gidwani, CBI counsel Mandar Goswami and a tax consultant JK Jagiasi in connection with the Adarsh land scam.
The anti-corruption branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested the four persons in connection with the payment of an alleged bribe to dilute the Adarsh Cooperative. The court observed that there was no reason to extend the police custody of the accused and granted them judicial custody till 30th March. The accused have filed a joint bail application that will be heard on Saturday.
In its remand application, the CBI had alleged that Jagiasi, a tax consultant and KL Gidwani, one of the 14 accused in the Adarsh scam case, entered into a criminal conspiracy. It as alleged that Gidwani paid a sum of Rs1.25 crore to Jagiasi by illegal means to influence CBI officials to show favours to them in the Adarsh scam case. The CBI counsel had sought the extention stating that the accused were influential people and the agency needed more time to investigate the telephonic conversations and account diaries
