MUMBAI: Two police constables were seriously injured after a sudden
exchange of fire with the Naxalites of CPI (Maoist) at Jimalgatta
jungle in Ghadcharoli on Friday morning.
“At around 11 am during the ‘area domination exercise’ which we
normally do by frequenting the hide outs in the jungle area…the
constables were shot at during an unexpected firing police at
Jimalgatta jungle area. During which police constable Suresh Gawde
(32) and Kankaiya Durgam (30) were injured and were rushed to the
government civil hospital at Chandrapur,” Superintendent of
Ghadcharoli Police, Viresh Prabh said.
After the police retaliated the rebels retreated and the police later
recovered Naxalite literature, a cache of arms and ammunition,
walky-takies from the hideout. Speaking to The Hindu over phone, SP
Viresh Prabhu said that both the constables were out of danger and
additional police forces had been sent to cordon off the area.
