MUMBAI: Fire in a residential building in Tardeo, on Thursday, claimed one life and injured 11 people.
Fire Brigade sources said that the fire broke out on the third floor of a residential building and a part of the building collapsed, however no one was trapped in the rubble. Eight fire engines came on the spot to fight the blaze and as a precautionary measure, adjacent buildings were evacuated.
65-year-old Arvind Phansekar was announced dead on arrival, whereas 11 others have been admitted to BYL Nair charitable hospital.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner Subodh Kumar said the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. He added that the fire spread as the building had wooden staircase and a cylinder blast, even though no fire safety norms were violated by the building. (Eom)
